Call of Duty: World at War Review

World War II, don’t you just love it, no? Well then, Treyarch is back with a new edition of the Call of Duty Franchise and they took it back to the WWII era, and trust me it’s better than the previous ones they have done, with some minor hitches. Does it meet expectations you ask?, read more after the jump.

If I may say, for the first time, Treyarch has actually made a game worth playing both in single player and in online. Now, Call of Duty: World at War is based on the the Amercians point of view in the Pacific showing the horrors of the Japanese and how they were willing to get anything done no matter what, as well as the Russians final days with the Germans as they slowly advance forward to take over berlin to win the war. All with that said, the story is well done and very good, showing actual footage of WWII and giving actual facts about the war while the levels load up like say about 1 in 5 men in a will survive in a group during the fights, which is sad and harsh to actually know. Each story plays out very well, you start off with the Amercians then to the Russians nad so on and so forth, and it keeps you interested to see these sides of WWII and how brutal combat was, did I forget to mention this is one of the darkest Call of Duty’s we’ve seen to date I mean seriously, Banzai attacks, flamethrowers, and body parts flying off in certain points of the game, yep that’s brutal and possibly awesome to see how Treyarch improved the Call of Duty 4 Engine much more then well, Call of Duty 4. Also keeping a solid framerate there in never a slowdown in this game that will take you away from the action.

So gameplay your asking for eh?, gameplay is still the same old Call of Duty style, run, attack, aim, fire, etc. but this game takes Call of Duty to a new level in a sense, why you ask? because, Treyarch did not want to screw up the franchise from what it is, and they did that, Treyarch made alot of improvements to the COD4 engine, by adding some of their own features, as I’ve said before, flamethrowers, body parts, and much more. Also in the mix this time is Co-op mode which of course you can play with your friends on the couch or with friends online and try out Call of Duty in a whole new way (I’ve played it with my friends to help out with this review and they love it and help me put alot when I’m down) and once you’ve beat the game you’ll unlock a mode called NAZI ZOMBIES! (no, seriously thats what it’s called) in whihc you and three friend try to survive wave after waves of…Nazi Zomies defending your fort and gaining special powerups for you to suceed in you survival. Plus, multiplayer is back again but in a whole new way, well WWII style that is, it does use much of COD4’s multiplayer style such as completing challanges and gaining XP and using perks, but Vehicles are now added and it doesn’t improve the game much because sometimes it can unbalance the game when one team has all the vehicles and your just spawning and BOOM you die by a tank, fun but wasn’t really needed. Also Lvl’s have gone crazy from 55 to 65, yep to max out you need to go to level 65 now. The maps are fairly balanced ranging from large to small depending on how many players are in the game. Sadly all is not perfect in the online portion, hit sometimes don’t match up and stabs, well stabs sometimes won’t register and you’ll end up either getting stabbed or lit up by the enemy.

The sounds of the game are pretty good, from the voice acting to the yells and screams of the enemy, to the sounds of the guns firing down and racking up some kills. At certians points of the game I heard some mix ups and sometimes some glitches in the audio, might have been in my review copy but that’s what happened to me. Other than all this, some questions to be answered:

1. Is World at War Better than COD4?

2. Is this game worth my $60?

and to answer those in some ways it is better only by the improvements made to the engine and yes it is worth $60. Treyarch did a fine job to the game making it solid and slick and just damn fun to play.

Scores:

Presentation: 9.5

Alot of people won’t like the jump from Modern Warfare to WWII again but, it’s great to play COD in any form.

Graphics: 9.5

Some hitches here and there, same as COD4 but they look better in a way.

Sound: 9.0

I had some issues on my end but in all the sound was good.

Gameplay: 9.0

Just like COD4 but with improvements.

Replay Value: 9.0

You’ll replay the game but in co-op and in multiplayer but I sometimes felt like going back to Modern Warfare.

Final Score: 9.2

Star Wars Battlefront III Surfaces

Apparently, some old renders from Star Wars Battlefront III were recently dug up:
